Roy G and The Biv’s debut EP

We have to share this with you. Indie electro disco duo Roy G and the Biv have recently released their debut EP, its available for purch download online. I can still remember the first time we dropped their free download Nicotine a few months back at MTV’s the Lair. Quite a few punters were asking who it was and just loved the concepts delivered through the various vocal melodies. You can stream the entire thing from their My Space, or buy it directly from their Sno-Cap account.

A significant amount of bands are giving this sound a go lately, its a kind of 80’s feel disco with modern production, few do it as well and intelligently. With massive synth chords, live instrumentation and loads of production, this offering is extremely mature and leaves us with high hope of the future for this duo. Considering the guys, Max Townsley and Drew Erickson are in their very early twenties and still finishing their University degrees, things are really looking bright. The production techniques employed here are heavy, and most often add to the funk vibe of the tracks, a very difficult task. g

These very radio friendly lyrics that stick on your head with loads of quirky personality, forcing you to repeatedly want to relive their crazy metaphors. They have shaken dance floors constantly for us since its release. Don’t waste any time if you haven’t been fortunate enough to discover them. Stream it while your buying it.

The Dirty DJs axed from day 1… so heres some essential 80’s hip hop videos

Posted in News on October 10th, 2008

We were meant to be on the radio tonight… but we were canceled. Axed from day one.  Well kinda not really, but we feel a major loss within ourselves, I hadn’t taken my cons off for a month. Our good friend Rick is doing the show. So tune and check it out.

Some essential hop hop videos and Links to fill our void. Some stuff from The Movie Breakin’, Krush Groove and an old TV Pilot called Graffiti Rock. Got to love the random Hip Hop Jargon throughout… A must see. Its important to note that some of these movies weren’t considered very authentic to majority of the people from the underground at the time. But the dancing is sweet and some of the battles rock…. enjoy

Dirty Fridays Mini-Mega Mix for Download

Posted in Gigs, News on October 2nd, 2008

We have whipped up a little massive mega mix to give you a glimpse of some of the tunes you can catch at Dirty Fridays. Show ya grandma, she probably has some of it on vinyl. Ideal for eulogies suited to people into dancing and music. It almost goes for 6 minutes, let me know what you think. Pass it on.

Dirty Fridays Mega Mix mixed by the Dirty DJS - featuring MGMT, The Presets, Hot Chip, Hall and Oates, Stevie Nicks and loads more….

Dirty Fridays to begin next week.

Posted in Gigs, News on October 2nd, 2008

After the Dirty DJ’s fill their first fill in slot on Eastside FM, we will be launching our first Friday club night. Both of these pertinent events have been labeled Dirty Fridays. So, following the usual list of fine acts that pass through Oxford St’s The Supper Club, you will find (atleast one of) two music nerds playing records guaranteed to shake your hips, move your feet, with an overall anti house policy. With enough groove to show that special someone you can move.

Its launching next Friday night. the 10th of October, dont bother cancelling what you have organized. Just come. for your own sake. Free entry after 11pm. We apologize if we leave you with little to live for with your days in between.

See you there.

Fresh Records - Leona Naess, Thirteens

Posted in Reviews on September 30th, 2008

Not everyone may have room for it, but I am generally not without one or two intimate singer song writers albums in my fresh list of albums I am rotating. The first Leona Naess album to really hit me, was Thirteens. This is her fourth offering, I am not sure why the others never hit me, I did check them out. This still houses the smart and popy girl singer whos vocals keeps your attention with topic let alone melody. I dont really understand why no one around me has ever mentioned her.

A local to New York for the past ten years, Leona Naess would be surrounded by a wealth of interesting creativity. This shines through in her unique take on this folk rock feel. I will say there are loads of singers like this out there, but Leona is sitting real nice with me at the moment. This album is great to chill out too. And can leave you with some deep thoughts. There are quite a few stand out tracks, I am a little too rushed to go through them all. Check out “Leave our boyfriends” on her my space if you get the chance and sample the rest on iTunes. Then buy the album, this will be one of our feature records at the next NLR presents at Cafe lounge on the 14th of October.

P.S. Come visit us down here in Aus :)
